TMU in Jamaica
A Trip of Note to Kingston

Ligonier, PA - TMU made a trip to Kingston in June to buy notes and coins from the Bank of Jamaica. As always, the folks at the BOJ were friendly and helpful.
The bank had new issue notes that feature a different watermark scheme from the previous issue, which is noted as P79 and P80 in the catalog. The previous series used the Hummingbird watermark across all denominations, $50, $100, $500 and $1,000. The new issue has a new scheme with different watermarks for each note. Now the $50 features the portrait of Samuel Sharpe, the denomination and a parrot. The $100 features the portrait of Sanger, the denomination and a flower. The $500 features the portrait of The Nanny of the Maroons, the denomination and the BOJ logo of a crocodile with a key in its mouth. Finally, the $1,000 features the Manley portrait, the denomination and a butterfly similar to the gold foil security device on the note.
TMU also acquired plenty of uncirculated sets of Jamaican coins. You can purchase them individually, or as a set. The set consists of 7 coins, 1 Cent, 10 Cent, 25 Cent, 1 Dollar, 5 Dollars, 10 Dollars and 20 Dollars. With the exception of the 1 Cent coin which features the FAO message, the set depicts famous Jamaicans. Look for the set in the coin catalog for specific dates and descriptions.
